Teaching people the rules of budgeting behaviour helps them to achieve financial independence. However, firm but user friendly discipline is called for otherwise people are in for a rude shock because they will find it difficult when it doesn't have to be. The people I speak to who budget use words like 'pleasing', 'contentment', 'happy' and similar words because knowing they live within their means makes them feel safe. At one time or another we have all known someone that has not been game to open their credit card statement for fear of knowing the state of your financial position. My advice to people in denial is - "avoiding the situation only makes it worse so the next time you receive your credit card statement make sure you dont ignore it so you can taking control of your financial future."
