When most people use the word ‘discipline’ they tend to think ‘punishment’. Discipline comes from the word ‘disciple’ which really means ‘to teach’ and teaching people is an important goal of discipline. Teaching people the rules of budgeting behaviour helps them to achieve financial independence. However, firm but user friendly discipline is called for otherwise people are in for a rude shock because they will find it difficult when it doesn't have to be.
